Curriculum Revision

On Friday, December 16, 2005, The AE faculty voted to adopt a slightly revised curriculum affective for students in the Spring 2006 Pool, i.e., current second year students. While students in upper classes are obligated to follow the 168 credit curriculum, anyone may adopt the new curriculum if they choose. Students choosing this path must adhere to 100% of the new requirements. Not everyone will find this a desirable option.

The proposed new curriculum will be forwarded through several more steps of approval: the College Undergraduate Studies Committee, the Engineering Faculty Council, and the University Faculty Senate. Final approval may not be official until summer 2006. There is always the possibility that changes will be imposed on this proposal as it makes its way through the approval process.

The goals of the curriculum revision are:

Since the revision affects courses in the second year, students should be aware that the proposal includes the deletion of Cmpsc201 from the curriculum. If you find the course important to your personal academic goals, you may keep it on your schedule as additional credits. On the other hand, you may defer taking Cmpsc201 for the time being. Schedule another course in its place, such as ME23 or EE220. Other than deferring Cmpsc 201, no other adjustment to your schedule is suggested at the present time.

The Curriculum Changes:
FOR STUDENTS OF ALL OPTIONS: (Reduction of 4 credits)

FOR STRUCTURAL OPTION STUDENTS: (Reduction of 4 credits)

FOR MECHANICAL OPTION STUDENTS: (Reduction of 4 credits)

FOR LIGHTING/ELECTRICAL OPTION STUDENTS: (Reduction of 4 credits)

FOR CONSTRUCTION OPTION STUDENTS: (Reduction of 4 credits)

An Advising Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at 100 Thomas  to present the new plan and clarify any issues. Your attendance is required unless you are graduating Spring Semester 2006.
