The project engineer supporting Engineering and Infrastructure Management within CFS will provide engineering technical expertise in support of the Fannie Mae Home Office portfolio; currently DC, Northern Virginia, Maryland facilities.  The incumbent will be responsible for supporting both the activities of the Strategic Planning and Facilities Development group, as well as role of subject matter expert supporting building operations and mission-critical facility operations.

The position supports all activities of Strategic Planning and Facilities Development, and is a key member of the Engineering and Infrastructure Management team. The project engineer will provide technical support as required and add value to the activities and objectives of the Corporate Facilities and Security division.
 
Overall Position Responsibilities:
The project engineer will have a wide range of professional responsibilities, including but not limited to the following:
  • Establish and document engineering design standards and specifications for electrical and life safety systems, including MCF related facility systems.
  • Bringing current industry technical knowledge and expertise to bear in supporting best-value decisions in upgrading existing facility infrastructure.
  • Establishing and documenting green building engineering standards and specifications for building and all MCF related systems.
  • Assist in contracting and coordinating consultative engineering and design services in support of capital project renovations, capital equipment repair and replacement.
  • Assist in reviewing design documents prepared by A/E firms and verifying conformance to design standards and scope requirements.
  • Preparation of technical specifications for minor projects and/or equipment replacements.
  • Support of in-house small projects implementation
  • Quality control role in reviewing construction installation work and participating in project close-out and hand-off to building operations. 
  • Participates in supporting and planning commissioning of MCF equipment and systems.
Technical Qualifications:
The project engineer will have a wide range of experience including engineering design, planning, construction, hands-on systems startup/commissioning, and building operations. Specific qualifications as follows:
  • Knowledge and understanding of electrical and life safety systems codes.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge / design knowledge of Utility and Medium Voltage Systems, Power Distribution, and Low Voltage Electrical Systems.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of building life safety systems.
  • Significant experience with MCF systems, including major UPS installations, engine-generator plants, and fuel storage and delivery systems.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of HVAC systems, central mechanical plants, and building plumbing systems.
  • Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems, Power Monitoring Systems, and PLCs
  • Ability to assess scope, estimate, and budget cost of work and ultimately determine best-value means of implementing engineering solutions.
Administrative / Communications Skills:
The incumbent will possess a wide range of skills which will assure success in communicating with peers, internal customers, management, and consultants / vendors. Following are specific skill requirements.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications as well as skill in a wide variety of intra-net and internet based corporate business applications.

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering (any discipline, prefer Electrical or Mechanical) and an appropriate combination of education and qualifying work experience.
  • Approximately 5-10 years experience working for design, construction, and/or facilities management type organizations serving large corporate users.
  • Extensive experience working on construction projects and activities for commercial and mission-critical Data Center facilities.
  • Experience and key roles on a wide variety of facility projects to include minor alterations, major projects, infrastructure renovations, commissioning, and construction administration.

We have an open studio environment where intern architects can work closely with firm principals, and learn a lot from the experiences of those around them. Plus, the size of our firm is just right to allow for staff to be a part of a project team from start to finish, and to actually see the project get built!

    with a minimum of 1-2 years experience to work on luxury hospitality and multi-family
    residential projects. Candidate will be responsible for developing lighting designs from
    concept to completion under the supervision of a more senior lighting design staff member.
    CAD proficiency is desirable. Intent to take the NCQLP certification exam is preferred.
