The Penn State Facilities Engineering Institute (PSFEI), founded in 1947 at the request of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, provides facility engineering services to ten state agencies. PSFEI's
original mission, to provide engineering support services relating to facility steam generation issues,
has greatly expanded over the years. Today, a broad array of services is provided including: training
facility operators and managers, preparation of needs assessments, and the development of solutions
and strategies for facility owners faced with ever-changing economic and environmental conditions. PSFEI
has expertise in central boiler plants, HVAC, electrical distribution systems, water treatment, fire
and security, energy markets, energy procurement, energy management, and information technology solutions
for facility needs. PSFEI's mission is to merit the public trust by meeting customer facility needs
through engineering, information management, education, and research services.
