First-Year Preference of a Major

During April of their first spring semester at Penn State, ENGR students are asked to indicate their major preference(s) on eLion. The purpose of the preference process is to provide the College with information about the current level of interest for the majors offered by the College of Engineering. Such information may allow the College to make some preparations.

Another purpose of the process is for early entrance to a major. ENGR students may indicate their desire to be considered for early admission to a major. The process is described in the Entrance to Major section.

The preference indicated by students during April of the first year is not binding; the process is carried out during the spring semester prior to the pool semester. However, students who wish to be considered for architectural engineering must complete the process on eLion. Unlike other majors under enrollment control, the total enrollment limit for architectural is filled after the first year with students indicating a preference for architectural engineering.
