PURPOSE: The Penn State Engineering Alumni Society Premier Teaching Award recognizes and rewards an individual whose contributions to Engineering education or the art of teaching are of exceptional quality.

AWARD: A single award is presented annually. The recipient receives $1,000 and a memento. Funding is made possible through annual gifts from Engineering alumni and friends.

ELIGIBILITY: Any full-time College of Engineering faculty member who has been a recipient of the College’s Outstanding Teaching Award at least two years earlier and who has continued to develop as an exemplary teacher is eligible.

NOMINATIONS: Nominations may be initiated by Engineering students, faculty, or department heads. Each nomination must, however, be submitted to the head of the candidate’s academic unit for review and approval prior to submission to the Dean’s Office.

Each nomination should consist of:

  • a completed nomination form;
  • a letter of nomination by the initiator;
  • a letter of support by the department head, if other than the initiator;
  • an optional one-page summary of support data;
  • a maximum of three letters of support from former students and/or Engineering colleagues;
  • each support letter will be a maximum of two pages in length and will have one signature.

SELECTION: Selection will be made by a committee appointed by the Dean of Engineering. The committee will consist of three previous award recipients, two PSEAS Executive Board members, and the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies.

FREQUENCY: Past recipients are ineligible.
