American Concrete Institute (ACI)

The Penn State chapter of the American Concrete Institute strives to expose its members to the field of concrete engineering, including the studies of structural engineering and material science in coordination with the American Concrete Institute. In addition, they help prepare members for employment and/or advanced educational opportunities in the field of concrete engineering.

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)

The goal of the Penn State chapter of ASCE is to encourage active interest in the study of civil and environmental engineering, aid in professional and intellectual advancement, and establish bonds of good fellowship among its members.

Engineers in Action

Engineers in Action seeks to build footbridges over impassable rivers in impoverished rural areas across the globe. Through the construction of bridges, residents in these communities are provided with better access to healthcare, education, and economic market opportunities.

Concrete Canoe Team

Each year, the Concrete Canoe Team designs and builds a full size canoe made completely from concrete and reinforcement materials and then competes in a regional competition each April. Building the canoe is a yearlong process that allows team members to use concepts learned in the classroom to create something extraordinary.

Steel Bridge Team

The Steel Bridge Team is a student-run organization that offers civil engineering students a chance to participate in a practical design and build competition. A 1/10th scale steel bridge is designed to comply with the AISC rules and must be assembled quickly on site at the annual competition. Members must design and fabricate the bridge from start to finish, allowing them to apply classroom knowledge in a real-life project.

Chi Epsilon: Civil Engineering Honors Society

The Penn State chapter of the Chi Epsilon honor society for civil engineers seeks to honor academic excellence for civil engineering students that rank in the top third of their junior or senior classes. Dedicated to the purpose of maintaining and promoting the status of civil engineering as an ideal profession, Chi-Epsilon was organized to recognize the characteristics of the individual civil engineer deemed to be fundamental to the successful pursuit of an engineering career, and to aid in the development of those characteristics in the civil engineering student.

Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI)

The objective of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute at Penn State University is to facilitate Earthquake Engineering awareness through a multidisciplinary organization aimed at community outreach.  This is accomplished through practical demonstrations and design competitions, as well as encouraging earthquake awareness through curriculum additions throughout the University.

The Institute of Transportation Engineers

The purpose of the Penn State chapter of the Institute of Transportation Engineers is to promote the advancement of transportation and traffic engineering by fostering the close association of students with the transportation and traffic engineering profession and the National Institute; acquaint students with topics of interest in transportation and traffic engineering through the medium of addresses by competent speakers, and offer Chapter-sponsored trips to foster the development of professional spirit; to promote common interests among the students; and encourage the expansion of facilities for transportation and traffic engineering study.

National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)

Membership in the Penn State chapter of the National Association of Home Builders entitles you to participate in the services of a professional, academic, and social organization. You will be linked with over 125,000 members from business and industry and gain access to guest speakers, educational trips, films, special cources, summer jobs, and scholarships.

Tau Beta Pi

Tau Beta Pi is an engineering honor society, highly regarded in the field. The national organization of Tau Beta Pi was founded in 1885 at Lehigh University, and has since grown to include over two hundred collegiate chapters and nearly sixty alumni chapters. The Pennsylvania Beta chapter of Tau Beta Pi was founded at The Pennsylvania State University on May 4, 1912 as the twenty-sixth collegiate chapter.

The purpose of the Engineering Graduate Student Council is to promote and enhance graduate studies within the College of Engineering through professional development activities, and to provide a forum for communication between graduate students, faculty, and administration within the College of Engineering.
