The College of Engineering maintains one of the best engineering programs in the
country with the generous help of its many donors, who give money, time, expertise, and equipment.
Our donors include alumni, friends, corporations, foundations, and other organizations and their
gifts range from modest one-time cash donations to the creation of endowments.
Endowments are of special importance to Penn State. An endowment is a gift that is held in
perpetuity and provides dependable support for a specific needs. The University invests the initial
gift and spends only a portion of the average annual investment return. The remainder is added to the principal
as protection against inflation. Endowments can be set up to support a wide range of purposes depending on
the individual donor's particular area of interest—from scholarships to professorships, from degree
programs to research laboratories, and more.
Endowments blend a donor's vision with the College's needs and objectives. The dependable
revenue stream provided by endowment income helps reduce reliance on external funding sources, keeps
tuition as low as possible, and will be essential to our ability to produce world-class engineers for
generations to come.
Giving opportunities include undergraduate scholarships, graduate
fellowships, faculty support, and program support.
