Center Projects

Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering:  IME, Inc.

IME, Inc. is a new two course sequence in which students formulate products concepts, create prototypes and implement the manufacturing of their products.

Mechanical Engineering:  IDEALS classes

Implementation of new courses that Integrate Design, Experimentation, Analysis and Life Skills (IDEALS)

Civil Engineering:  Case Studies

Case studies are being incorporated into required courses in structures, materials, and geo-tech.

Chemical Engineering:  Cognitive Apprenticeship

Senior students enrolled in the bio-processing minor participate in cluster courses and serve apprenticeships in a state-of-the-art bioprocess lab.

Intellectual Development Study

A longitudinal study of the intellectual development of engineering students based upon the Perry scheme.

Lifelong Learning Study

Part of an NSF funded project,  this study investigates the impact of curricular enhancements on self-directed learning by students.

Engineering Entrepreneurship Minor

A new minor created in collaboration with colleagues in business with support from the GE fund.

Engineering Ethics

A new initiative, funded by the Rolling Endowment, to assist faculty in integrating ethics related projects into their courses, being implemented in partnership with the Douglas L. Rock Ethics Institute in the College of Liberal Arts.

Engineering Leadership Development Minor (ELDM)

The ELDM enhances leadership, communication and business skills.

The Leonhard Center Technical Writing Initiative (LCTWI)

    LCTWI is an partnership of technical writing teachers from the Penn State English department.
