[1/26/2009]    Civil engineering's Reed wins achievement award

University Park, Pa. — Patrick Reed, professor of civil and environmental engineering, has been selected for an Outstanding Achievement Award by the Environmental and Water Resources Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

The award recognizes "exceptional performance of an important task or series of activities over a short period of time that advances the work of the water resources planning and management profession."

Reed began participating in the management of the groundwater symposia in 2004 and has served as an officer in the Groundwater Symposia and Continuing Education Committee of the Groundwater Council since it was founded in 2005. He also co-chaired the Groundwater Symposia from 2006 to 2008.

Reed helped to establish and develop the annual Groundwater Symposia of the World Environmental and Water Resources Congresses. Among other contributions to the organization, he created a student presentation award and has been instrumental in establishing policies, recruiting and organizing submissions to the symposia.
