[10/23/2009]    Civil Engineering's Wagener wins EPA's Early Career Award in STAR Program

University Park, Pa. — Thorsten Wagener, associate professor of civil engineering, was awarded the Early Career Award in the Science to Achieve Results (STAR) Program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Wagener's three-year project, "Probabilistic Projections of Watershed Services in U.S. Headwaters under Climate Change Scenarios," is funded within the Consequences of Global Change for Water Quality program. He will investigate how climate change will alter the hydrology of headwater catchments across the U.S. and will analyze how this change might lead to critical thresholds for ecological endpoints being exceeded.

The STAR program funds research grants and graduate fellowships in many environmental science and engineering disciplines. It provides funding for scientists and engineers whose research complements the EPA's own intramural research program and those of its partners in other federal agencies.
