The 2010 Penn State Rube Goldberg Machine Contest will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at 1 PM in Alumni Hall in the HUB-Robeson Center at University Park. The winning team will be eligible to represent Penn State at the national competition at Purdue University on March 27, 2010.
- The 2010 National Challenge: Design and build a machine that dispenses an appropriate amount of hand sanitizer into a hand in 20 or more steps.
- Who is Eligible to Enter? Any Penn State engineering-related club or organization at any Penn State campus is eligible to enter a team. Each team member must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at Penn State. There is no limit on the number of members a team may have, however, the number of people allowed on stage once the contest has begun will be limited to two (2) because of space restrictions.
- Machine Specifications: All machines must meet the specifications established by the Purdue University chapter of Theta Tau, a professional engineering fraternity that organizes and runs the national competition.
- Judging Criteria: The Penn State Rube Goldberg Machine Contest will be judged by members of the Penn State Engineering Alumni Society. We"ll be following the judging criteria established for the national competition.
- Prizes: First place, $300 and trophy; second place, $200 and trophy; third place, $100 and trophy. In addition, the first-place team will be eligible to represent Penn State at the National Rube Goldberg Machine Contest, held at Purdue University on March 27, 2010.
- Want to Enter? Complete the fill-and-print registration form and follow the instructions at the bottom of the form to submit it to Jane Harris, Contest Coordinator. The deadline for registering your team is Friday, November 20, 2009.
