Credit Overloads for College of Engineering Students
In general, the College of Engineering is not supportive of credit (more than 19) overloads
in any one semester. Engineering curricula are challenging and require significant out-of-class time
commitments to enhance the likelihood of academic success. It is not reasonable to attempt to overload
in any one semester because of poor performance or dropping courses in a previous semester.
Students who wish to register for more than 19 credits in any one semester must obtain the support of
their adviser.
The following guide may be used to determine whether support may be given to students who wish to
register for an overload:
- Students should be at least in their second semester of full-time study in the
College of Engineering.
- Second-semester students should have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 based on a
semester load of at least 17 credits in their first semester during which most of the credits were for
math/science/technical courses.
- Beyond the second semester, students should have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 based on an
average semester load of 17 credits or more in past semesters that included a majority of credits in
the math/science/technical courses.
