A student who had been in degree status at Penn State and has not taken courses at Penn State
(in any form or at any location) for at least four years is eligible to apply for re-enrollment with academic renewal. Academic renewal is intended for those whose
cumulative GPA at Penn State is less than 2.00 and therefore are not academically eligible for regular
re-enrollment into degree status.
Academic renewal means that upon re-enrollment, the student's GPA will start anew. The grades
for courses taken by the student prior to academic renewal remain on the student's transcript. However, for the
purpose of meeting degree requirements, credit is carried forward only for those courses in which a student had
obtained a minimum grade of "C". An appropriate notation is made on the student's transcript at the time that
academic renewal is granted.
Academic renewal to the College of Engineering is not normally granted to students who were
not in the College of Engineering at the time of their original enrollment.
Students seeking re-enrollment with academic renewal must contact the Office of the University Registrar to begin the
process. For further information, contact the Office of Student Services by calling 814-865-7539.
