Change of Major

The change of major term is used for the process of requesting a change in college or a change from one major to another within a college. Forms for such a request are available at all college advising centers, dean's offices, and the Office of the University Registrar.

The request for a change of major is made by filling out the Change of Major Form, indicating the current college and major and the requested college and major. The form, signed by the student, must be submitted or sent to the dean's office of the requested (new) college. All forms requesting a change to the College of Engineering for ENGR status or a University Park major must be submitted or sent to the Office of Student Services, 208 Hammond Bldg, University Park, PA 16802. Requests for changes to College of Engineering programs and majors at locations other than University Park must be sent or submitted to the School of Engineering Design, Technology and Professional Programs (SEDTAPP), 213 Hammond Building, University Park, PA 16802.

Students requesting a change from another college will be considered according to their academic performance, the relevance of the courses they have taken to the majors in the College of Engineering, and indication that they have potential to succeed in one of the College's majors.

Students who have already completed a high number of credits in another major should see Entering with a High Number of Credits for the conditions that are applicable to such requests.

College of Engineering students who wish to change their major after they had already been placed in a major by going through the entrance-to-major process will be considered only if there is space in the major and if the department to which they wish to change supports their request. Student who are in a College of Engineering associate degree program and who wish to change to a University Park baccalaureate program will be considered in the same manner as applicants from another college.
