A: Applications are accepted in mid-October or early November.
Q: How do I schedule for spring without knowing my MAE admission status?
A: Students need to plan for either possibility. Many students will not know their admission status until after Fall grades are in and have been reviewed by the admission committee. Notifications of admission status will be made the first week of January for students in “hold for Fall grades status.” Students who have been notified that they have been recommended for admission will be AUTOMATICALLY added to the graduated classes listed on the schedule submitted with their application.
Q. If I don’t get into the MAE program, can I still take graduate level courses
A. Yes, with permission, seniors with a GPA greater than 3.0 can take graduate classes. The form linked below should be used to add graduate classes. Students should NOT use this method of adding graduate classes while their MAE application is pending. Students should submit this form to the graduate school a minimum of three days before the drop/add period is over.
http://forms.gradsch.psu.edu/ges/500level2.pdfQ When will I be able to schedule my graduate classes on elion?
A. Students who have an undergraduate GPA less than 3.5 need to have their graduate courses added by the AE staff until they are formally admitted to the Graduate School. When students are admitted to the graduate school, their semester status will change to “IP” instead of a number. When a student’s semester status is listed as IP, they will be able to add courses on elion.
Q When will this year’s admission materials be available?
A.Admission materials are typically available in late September, early October each year.
Q How can I plan for the MAE before the requirements for my year are posted?
A. The MAE requirements and application process change very little from year to year. You can look at the prior year information for planning purposes.
Q: Who should I ask option specific questions about the MAE?
A Students should ask the option representative on the MAE admissions committee any questions they have. The current year admissions committee members are noted in the “How to apply” letter posted under FAQ #2.
A: Students at Leeds should apply while in England. The Graduate Program Officer will provide you with details and answer any questions you have. You may wish to inquire about the program and discuss it with your adviser prior to your departure.
Q: Can I substitute a course for one that is required?
A: You may be permitted to substitute a course, but you must provide a strong argument showing that your proposed change strengthens your program of courses. All proposed substitutions must be approved by the Graduate Program Officer.
Q: If I fall just under a 3.0 GPA in my third and fourth year, can I still apply?
A: No.
Q: Can I put off taking the graduate courses in one or more of the semesters while in the MAE program?
A: No, at least one graduate course is required in each semester beginning in the Spring of the 4th year. To complete 6 graduate-level courses, you will need to take two graduate courses in some of these semesters.
Q: Why does my undergraduate degree audit not include a course that I have taken for the M.A.E. program?
A: Two of the 400-level courses you take will not show up on your undergraduate degree audit. A final degree audit will therefore have 2 three-credit courses listed as incomplete requirements, but you will have taken these courses. In the computer accounting system, they have been transferred to the M.A.E. degree.
Q: Can I create a special combination of two options?
A: In rare circumstances, this will be permitted. Consult with the graduate program officer.
Q: I want to take an independent study course. Can I?
A: Only in situations where required courses are not available, or not offered, creating a problem for a student in meeting graduation requirements, will independent study credits be permitted. Independent study courses will not be permitted if they result in a student having more than 16 credits at one time why in the MAE program.
Q: Can I elect to leave the program after starting it?
A: Yes, in rare circumstances, however, you should be aware that it is extremely difficult to transfer classes from a graduate level back to an undergraduate level.
Q: Can I change my 30-credit program after beginning the program?
A: Yes, but you must resubmit a new 30-credit program for approval prior to scheduling any courses that are not included in the old plan.
Q: What grades are required in graduate courses?
A: A grade of C or better is required in any course that will count toward a graduate degree. The cumulative GPA of all courses counting toward a graduate degree must be 3.0 or better.
Q: Can I submit my application late?
No. Start the application early enough to get any questions answered. If you have last minute questions for which you do not have time to get answers, turn in your application filled out to the best of your ability. If problems exist in your proposed program, modifications will be requested during the review process.
