Prerequisite(s)

EMCH 11, EMCH 13

Course Objectives
  1. To determine loads that building/structural elements are likely to be subjected to during the lifetime of the building
  2. To discuss procedures used to determine reactions and internal forces in trusses, beams, trusses and frames
  3. To introduce methods that can be used to calculate deflections
Topics
  1. Loads on buildings and components
  2. Reactions calculations
  3. Statically determinate truss analysis
  4. Shear and moment diagrams
  5. Deflection of trusses by method of virtual work
  6. Deflection of beams and frames
  7. Statically indeterminate structures
  8. Approximate methods of analysis
