Theory, application of lighting in buildings; electrical light sources and related equipment circuitry; illumination design procedures; daylighting.

Course Objectives

This course is designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of illumination design practice for buildings. It familiarizes the student with lighting units, lighting equipment, lighting design, and lighting calculations.

  1. Human vision, electric light sources, lighting materials, auxillary devices, equipment and color
  2. Procedures for use in the design of general uniform electric lighting systems
  3. Controls for lighting systems
  4. Considerations and procedures for use in the design of non-uniform and localized lighting systems
  5. Design criteria
  6. Analysis of light systems
  7. Photometry
