Description

Building construction project planning; construction cost, schedule, quality and safety control systems; project cost accounting; change management; construction company management.

Prerequisite(s)
Eighth semester standing in AE
Course Objectives

The goal for this course is for the student to learn how to perform detailed construction planning; identify potential problems during construction; and manage changes throughout a project. This course will enable a student to better understand the role of the general contractor/construction manager in analyzing the construction aspects of a building project and designing the construction engineering and management systems to effectively execute that project.

Topics

The learning objectives include:

  • Learn how to perform detailed planning for a construction project.
  • Learn how to implement a construction plan and monitor the progress relative to a plan.
  • Learn how to manage changes which occur throughout the project and how to negotiate contract changes.
  • Learn the key decisions that construction executives need to make when managing a construction company and identifying potential projects.
  • Learn the ethical standards for a professional engineer and how ethics impact decisions within the construction industry.
