Description

Building project selection and preparation of overall plan; preliminary investigation of building design and construction issues; creation of individual Capstone Project Electronic Portfolio (CPEP) and project proposal required.

  • 5th-year standing in major area of emphasis
  • ARCH 441
Course Objectives

This course is designed to give fifth-year students in AE the opportunity and experience of designing many of the engineering systems of a major building and managing an architectural engineering design project. Emphasis in the student's major area of interest is encouraged but must include coordination and interaction of all systems. Building is selected by the student subject to faculty approval. Each project is unique in scope, emphasis and final details. Presentation and written reports. Industry participation as sponsors and external jury is included.

  1. Development of project characteristics
  2. Analysis and selection of a building project criteria
  3. Project master plan preparation
  4. Project study, fact-finding research including building studies and code research
  5. Development of project management system for recording of activities consultations, correspondence, reports
  6. Preparation of design workbook, including investigations, studies on preliminary building systems and systems schematics
  7. Preliminary analysis/comparison of engineering and construction systems
