Description
This course will cover elastic and inelastic buckling of beams, beam-columns, and frames. Applications to design of multi-story buildings will also be covered.
Prerequisite(s)
Course Objectives
The objective of this course will be to provide the students with an understanding of the methods of stability investigation, the theory of stability, and especially with the application of stability thoery to the design of beams, columns, and frames for buildings. At the conclusion of the course, students will be capable ot exact and approximate calculations of buckling loads on beams, columns, and frames. Students will understand the modifications necessary to account for material inelasticity and will be able to apply the understanding of instability phenomeno to the design of building structures.
