Description

Methods employed by owners and developers to initiate capital facility projects; defining project objectives, constraints, participants, financing and delivery methods.

Prerequisite(s)

AE 475, AE 476 or CE 432

Course Objectives

The learning objectives of the course are for students to:

  • Understand what occurs in the early stages of project formation as capital facility owners and developers initiate a project;
  • Understand the methods owners and developers use to progress through the capital facility process;
  • Understand the different types of acquisition strategies, project delivery methods, and contractual systems to achieving capital facility owner objectives; and,
  • Understand the decision-making needs of high performance sustainable building projects.

Introduction: How do projects get started; Project Definition: Goals & Constrains, Stakeholders, Budgets & Timelines; Feasibility Analyses; Project Financing & Costing Techniques, Engineering Economics, Options Analyses; High Performance Sustainable Buildings, Site Selection; Business & Tax Incentives; Project Delivery & Contracting from Owner's Perspective; Procurement Techniques: Requests for Qualifications & Requests for Proposals, Evaluating Proposals & Team Selection, Cash Farming: How to make Money from Cash Flow.
