Advising Notes - Vol. 1 No. 2

This instrument is intended for communications with all AE students and perspective AE students. Anyone wishing to be added to the listserv should notify Prof. Moses Ling at mosesling@psu.edu.
All AE and ENGAE students must stay on the listserv.

All AE and ENGAE Students

  1. Working towards compliance with all degree requirements is each student’s responsibility. The Degree Audit provides the tool to keep students informed. If you have problem figuring out the Degree Audit, remember it was not set up to make sense to you…It was set up to answer a series of questions regarding the program’s requirements. Each question is then a category on the Degree Audit.
  2. Students may wish to use the work sheet available on the department website under advising to forecast their schedules. Mocking up registrations for future semesters is a good idea, especially if you are not exactly on schedule with the 5-year patterns.
  3. Please see your advisors regularly.

5TH Years

  1. Please review your Degree Audits for completion of degree requirements, especially if you anticipate graduating in spring semester 2005.
  2. Be sure any petitions requiring the College approval in submitted prior to your “graduating semester”. That means before the start of Spring 05 if you plan on graduating in the spring semester. The Dean will not approve petitions during your graduating semester.
  3. Make sure you have your GI (international and intercultural) requirement fulfilled. Having participated in a study abroad program fulfills this requirement. A petition is necessary.
  4. FE applications for April 2005 are due in the College Continuing Education office at Rider II Building Friday, 19 November 2004. (They will still take it this week or you can mail it in directly by Dec. 1) Please take this opportunity seriously. It is your best opportunity to take this exam. The material should still be fresh on your mind. Even if you think the professional role you have chosen does not require a PE, take the FE Exam. You cannot forecast industry trends for the next 40 years. It is to your advantage to have the credentials.

  2. ARCH 443 – If you have not signed up for Arch443 and found the course closed, please inform Prof. Bandini of your status. plb@psu.edu. He is working to fit everyone into the course.

3rd Years

  1. Leeds bound? Please schedule your courses according to the patterns shown on our nifty new web site if you are planning on going to Leeds. www.engr.psu.edu/AE/ You should not take AE 402 and Arch 211 this spring as the stateside students. Leeds-bound students should take AE 401 in the spring. Lighting/Electrical students should take AE 444. See Mr. Paul Bowers if you have problems. L/E students are also required to take AE 461 via the web while in Leeds. All other option students interested in Leeds may schedule Stat 401 for spring 2005 I place of Arch 211.
  2. If you missed the Study Abroad meeting last week and plan to participate in either the Leeds or “Summer in Rome” program, you MUST inform Prof. Ling and get your name on the email list for future notices. You must stay informed by participating in the information session. Absences may disqualify you from participation.

2nd Years

  1. ENGR Students may schedule AE202 with permission from Prof. Ling. It is important that you stay relatively on track. ENGR students may not schedule AE221, AE222, or Arch130A. ENGR students intending to become AE’s should see their advisers to schedule courses that you can take in the upper years.
  2. All second year ENGAE students should have currently or be scheduing AE221 and AE222 concurrently. Scheduling both courses in the same semester is required.
  3. E Mch13 – If you are not in a section yet and have not responded to Prof. Ling’s emails, please do so immediately. He is working with the Engineering mechanics Department to fit students into the course. If you have signed up for E Mch 13 during the 12:20 time period and have MWF 11:15 period free, please inform Prof. Ling. You are asked to volunteer for Emch13D to make room for the students who only can take the course MWF 12:20. PLEASE let Prof. Ling know and NOT drop it on your own. He will collect the list of names and ask E Mech to make the changes. This will guarantee that the spots made available goes to your classmate. Thanks for helping.
