All AE and ENGAE Students
Welcome back to winter wonderland. Please visit the AE advising web site www.engr.psu.edu/ae. I am sure you will find it helpful. The site is constantly being updated.
- We have added a Department Elective Work Sheet. www.engr.psu.edu/ae/advising/electives_worksheet.doc You may need this to understand the number of Department Elective credits you have to take. This form should accompany any petitions for Department Electives. It will be reproduced on the back of the blue petition form. Available from Ms. Kimberly Lyle, 104 Engineering A.
First Year ENGR Students interested in AE
- Please keep an eye out in the E-news about when to indicate your preference for AE this Spring. Don’t miss it.
- Keep Saturday February 26 morning open for the Engineering Open House. Come visit the AE Department. This is a good time to ask the current AE students and faculty questions about the major. The event is designed for you and any high school students interested in AE.
- Please try to follow the curriculum in your Program Guide (The book you receive at FTCAP) as closely as possible. Deviating from the standard curriculum may cause you scheduling headaches later.
Second Year ENGAE and ENGR Students
- You should sign up to take AE202 if you are an ENGR second year student and are very sure you are going to be an AE and have a 3.0 GPA at the end of Fall semester 2004. If you are an ENGAE student you should be in AE202 already. See Kimberly Lyle at 104 Engineering A to sign up.
Third Years
- In your third year you should have all the AE300 level courses. If you have to miss an AE300 level course, make sure it is not one in the option you may be interested in pursuing. For instance, if you think you want structural, make sure you have taken AE308 in the third year. If you missed it last fall, see Prof. Ling immediately.
- If you are interested in going to Leeds in the Fall, your preliminary application is due this Friday. Your parent’s signature is required. Turn the completed form into Professor Ling or Kimberly Lyle.
- At the end of this semester you will be declaring your major. Do some leg work to learn more about the options. See your advisor and/or faculty in the option area. There are two special opportunities designed to help you make this important decision: The Washington Trip in AE372 and The SSAE Option Social. Take advantage of these events.
Fourth Years
- Please try to take all remaining architecture requirements in the fourth year. It is difficult to have studio while trying to do thesis. This includes Arch 443.
- Students returning from Leeds, you will need to file a petition for some of the courses. Please be on the look out for a notice for a debriefing meeting. You can get the paper work done then. Your grades will come from England and, typically, they take a while. Be patient.
Fifth Years
- If you are graduating this semester, please go on e-Lion and activate your intent to graduate.
- Check your degree audit now. Make sure you have the right number credits to graduate. Any red and /or minus signs indicate a requirement that has not been met. See your advisor for guidance. Now is the time to check while you can still do something about it. Drop/Add period ends on the 19th January.
- If you are getting Minor, go to the department offering the minor and fill out the necessary paper work. Don’t wait till the last minute.
New Course
- AE 497D is a one credit course focused on teaching students how to develop 3D building information models with the Autodesk Revit application. Additional information can be found at http://www.engr.psu.edu/ae/faculty/messner/ae497D_flier.doc.
Seats are limited so interested students should sign up as soon as possible.
Have a great semester. It will be warm before you know it.
