Building Blocks - Vol. 1, No. 1

Wouldn’t it be nice…
During Freshmen Orientation this fall, I presented a number of personal development ideas. One of these ideas was service. Even while a student is focused on getting an education, there is room in his life to give a little of his/her time and energy purely for the benefit of others.

This week I received an email from one of these students looking for ways to do just that. It appears that the organization he joint cannot provide enough service opportunities for all the students who volunteered. This is wonderful, so many students willing to give a little of their lives. If anyone is looking for volunteering opportunities contact Volunteer Service/Lion Share 863-4624. See Professor Ling if you have any ideas of your own.

I am sure you have heard of the challenge to exercise random acts of kindness. I am suggesting that you plan on deliberate and meaningful service activities, in addition to being kind on a regular basis. I have been challenged by an old song written in1924 by Ira Wilson titled “Make me a Blessing”. The song ends with the phrase – make me a blessing to someone today. What a difference we can make collectively if we start each day with this thought.
