Fire Engulfs Office Building in Madrid – Feb 12, 2005
One of the Spanish capital’s first high-rise buildings was wrecked during a two-day fire ending Feb. 14. The blaze, which caused no injuries, is believed to have started two-thirds up the 106-meter-tall Windsor Building, in Madrid’s center. The fire stripped away many of the steel perimeter columns, exposing the 11 x 14.4-m concrete core. Completed on a 40 x 26-m footprint in 1979, the building is enclosed in a glass and aluminum skin.
