Architectural Lighting Designer USA
Full-time Position Available: Architectural Lighting Designer USA
Work Scope: Electric lighting and daylighting design for new and restorative projects in commercial, corporate, gaming, judicial, healthcare, hospitality, institutional, landscape, residential, and retail settings in, primarily, United States. Ancillary assignments may include publication and product design assistance. Candidate will not be training for licensing or registration as an electrical engineer or architect.
Specific Skills (required):
Design – Normal-power architectural lighting design (proficient in design programming and prioritizing criteria, illuminance and luminance criteria, CRI, CCT, subjective impressions, and conveying intent through hand sketching and/or software and/or image boards), with working knowledge of trigonometry and photometry, a sense for style, and understanding of basic design maxims.
Software – AutoCAD (proficient), Revit (proficient or basic working knowledge), AGi32 (proficient), Word, Excel, Acrobat 9, Adobe CS4 (Photoshop and InDesign, proficient or basic working knowledge). Familiarity with Radiance, SketchUp, and other such tools are a plus, but not a necessity.
Client Relations – Professional phone, email, written, and oral presentation skills.
Compliance – LEED and 90.1 capable.
Self-starter – Take initiative in problem solving, work with mini-mockups to assess nuances, explore new software.
Language Proficiency – reading, writing, speaking English.
Certifications/acknowledgements: some combination of IES, IALD, LC, LEED-AP
Education (required): Candidate shall have graduated from a 4-year-minimum degreed program in related field or a 4-year-minimum degreed program in any field with master’s degree in lighting.
Work Ethic (required): Work individually and as part of studio team to effectively and efficiently meet deadlines. Exhibit a 2D and 3D understanding of spatial and lighting effects. Travel if/as needed to work with primarily US-based clientele.
Employment: This employment relationship is on an at–will basis. That is, either party may terminate the relationship at any time for any reason or for no reason. Daily work schedules are rather flexible, but candidate will be expected to meet clients’ demands. There are eight paid holidays (Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year’s, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and the day after Thanksgiving). Other personal or religious holidays can be accommodated instead. Benefits include two weeks of vacation per year of employment and employee health care (assuming candidate meets Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan enrollment requirements; coverages and conditions subject to change). Energy and Climate Concept Development and Validation Engineer

Transsolar develops and validate concepts for high quality environments that require minimal energy use. To achieve this we work collaboratively within the design team from the start of the design process, considering each step from the standpoint of fundamental thermodynamics. We use a wide variety of computer simulation tools to evaluate our concepts. Responsibilities : The ideal candidate will work directly with our estimating and proposal project teams and take responsibility for delivering quality service and achieving project goals and objectives. The successful candidate will possess a can-do-attitude and enjoy the challenge of multiple projects in a team oriented, multi-faceted and demanding environment. Borrego Solar is seeking a CA registered structural engineer with a minimum of 10 years experience post registration in the investigation of existing buildings looking to relocate and work in our Lowell, MA office. The candidate will work with a team of design engineers, project managers and engineering consultants to develop rooftop and ground mounting solutions for commercial, government and utility solar PV projects. The incumbent will also work as part of the company’s Resources Group to evaluate solar racking solutions and provide input and feedback on ideas on reducing integration costs. Primary duties include the investigation and analysis of existing steel, wood and concrete structures to determine their structural integrity and ability to support PV systems. Duties will also include preparing design details and assisting in the preparation of contract drawings. As the first licensed structural engineer in the company, the incumbent will be required to educate junior engineers as well as develop and document structural standards and analysis techniques for the company. The incumbent will report directly to Borrego Solar’s Chief Technology Officer, an Architectural Engineer and NABCEP certified solar installer.

1. Registered Structural P.E. in the state of CA with the ability to quickly get registered in MA and willingness to get registered in other states as needed; the candidate will become the license holder for the company
2. Minimum 10 years post registration experience
3. Must have a strong understanding of all relevant codes including a demonstrated experience with snow loads, snow drift, seismic and wind load calculations including components and cladding and MWFRS
4. Ability to work independently and effectively with project managers, clients, consulting engineers, design and technical personnel as well as manufacturing staff
5. Must be open minded, creative and possess the ability to modify and expand theories to find creative solutions within the confines of the code

Description:
HDR is in need of a Senior Structural Engineer to work as part of our Architecture office in Alexandria, VA. They will be viewed as a technical expert with recognized authority in structural engineering as it relates to projects and to resolve problems of greater scope and complexity. The Senior Structural Engineer may also plan and develop projects or design activities which have significant impact on major company programs, and could also plan, organize, and supervise the work of a medium to large staff of professionals and technicians. Although they may serve as a project manager on larger projects, project management is not the sole focus of position.
Qualifications:
BS in Civil/Structural Engineering required.
MS in Structural Engineering preferred.
PE required.
10+ years structural engineering experience as it relates to building design.
Experience with ETABS, AutoCAD, REVIT, and RAMSteel is strongly preferred.
Experience in design calculations and layouts, as well as the ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry and wood are required.
Requires understanding of gravity analysis and lateral analysis.

Job Description
The Policy & Program Analysis Group within the Energy & Environment Directorate at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory-Battelle is currently seeking a Lighting Engineer. This position will be based in Lexington, MA. The primary duties associated with this position could vary depending on client needs. Primary responsibilities focus on research and development of energy-efficient lighting practices and technologies. Lighting practices addressed by the work include: guidance for lighting best practices, specification development, and market transformation of equipment based on best practices. Lighting technologies addressed by the work include: advanced versions of conventional technologies, daylighting apparatuses, lighting controls, and solid-state lighting. Representative activities from recent and existing projects include:
- Development of design guidance for proper application of energy-efficient and high-quality lighting.
- Development and implementation of commercialization assistance strategies for advanced technologies.
- Investigating and writing technical reports on advanced lighting technology market and technical issues.
- Development of lighting technologies energy conservation standards for DOE.
- Testing, demonstration, and market development of next generation commercial and residential lighting technologies.
- Development of next generation lighting technologies test procedures for standards certification and compliance with technology procurements.
Principal Qualifications
The individual will be a member of an interdisciplinary team, often with participants from multiple government agencies and/or other clients and consultants. This will require exceptionally strong communication/influencing and leadership skills in order to work successfully with a variety of external stakeholders, lighting industry, and laboratory staff. Incumbent will also be required to author written reports and conduct oral presentations. The selected incumbent will also participate in conferences as a presenter and participant. Interdisciplinary team formation and networking experience are highly desirable.
Minimum Requirements
Level II:
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree plus 2-3 years experience; Masters Degree (preferred) with 0-2 years experience; or PhD with 0 years experience.
Level III:
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree plus 5 years experience; Masters Degree (preferred) with 3+ years experience; or PhD with 1-2 years experience.

Minimum of 4 years experience performing structural engineering on healthcare, institutional or commercial projects.
