Staff Engineers will work on various project types, including: public and private educational facilities; commercial office buildings; industrial buildings; residential projects; and institutional facilities.

Because you may be involved in several projects at one time, involving several team members (such as project manager, engineer, and a CAD technician), we are looking for good communicators, who are able to multi-task, and work well with others.

Primary responsibilities will be:

A B.S. in a solar related engineering program is a must, as is an individual working towards their P.E. licensure.

- SKILLS: Candidate shall be able and willing to work both in the office and field when required. An understanding of basic electrical safety procedures is a must. Candidate should be able to seamlessly work between the field and the office while maintaining a professional demeanor. A strong familiarity with AutoCAD and Excel modeling a must.

- PHYSICAL QUALS: Aspects of the job may require you to work on an active construction site where personal protective gear is required. Outside work exposed to the weather for extended periods three or more hours may be required. The ability to climb ladders with 40lbs of equipment is a must.

Job Description: Lighting Engineer/Scientist: Appliance Standards

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks lighting engineers, scientists, or designers interested in being a member of the Appliance Standards team. This team performs research in support of the development and deployment of progressive national energy efficiency standards and the supporting test procedures for lighting products. Members of the Appliance Standards team work closely with peers, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), other national laboratories, and research organizations to research and develop lighting standards, test procedures, and supporting analyses and documentation. Energy conservation standards are one of the most direct and certain methods for reducing energy use in buildings. Developing and documenting standards and procedures, analyzing and engaging interested parties, and understanding the national effects of the standards all require expert knowledge of the technical subject matter, mature and experienced judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work to tight and potentially shifting timelines.

The successful candidate will be technically strong in one or more of the following areas: lighting technology; design; application and performance metrics; and regulatory review and interpretation. Lighting professionals at PNNL have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of tasks, including the following:
- Development of DOE energy conservation standards and supporting test procedures
- Testing, demonstration, and market development of next-generation commercial and residential lighting technologies
- Development of next generation lighting technologies test procedures for standards certification and compliance with technology procurements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge and/or experience in industry-accepted equipment energy conservation standards and test procedures would be beneficial but is not required. Data collection, data analysis, measurement, and verification experience would also be beneficial. Successful team members are detail oriented, understand energy performance data, can read and write regulatory language, and can communicate complicated energy efficiency topics clearly.
- The successful candidate will possess strong analytical, task management, and communications skills, and be able to communicate clearly the goals, parameters, objectives, and outcomes of research.
- Bachelor's degree plus 2+ years experience; master’s degree or PhD (preferred). Education and experience should be related to lighting.

Rocky Mountain Institute is seeking candidates for a Consultant position within our Buildings Practice, which focuses on residential, commercial, and institutional building efficiency. This position may also include involvement in other practices focused on solar energy systems, industrial efficiency, transportation and sector integration with the electricity system.

Our Buildings Practice largely focuses on two key areas. The first is an initiative called Super Efficient Housing, which leverages buildings, engineering and manufacturing and construction management insights to research, demonstrate and advocate for far more efficient new housing, built at the same cost as conventional homes. The second is an initiative called RetroFit, which is driving a new capability for both practitioners and owners of commercial (nonresidential) buildings - the capability to target and execute deep energy retrofits that fundamentally change the way those existing buildings work, and in doing so cut their energy use in half or more. From time to time we also do special projects, especially in Colorado, outside these two initiatives.

This role involves intense involvement in many projects, some of them at or "beyond" state of the art. Key activities will include reviewing and analyzing the performance of HVAC system design, participating in energy audits, life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) and general engineering and data analysis. Due to our non-profit status, a majority of our budget comes from donor contributions. As a result, RMI continually strives to achieve measurable success in our work. The Consultant will support RMI efforts to demonstrate, replicate and communicate the success of projects to industry and donor audiences.

Core responsibilities include:

* Providing content expertise on mechanical system issues
* Advising mechanical design professionals on innovative low energy HVAC design and controls
* Participating in energy audits on existing building
* Performing LCCA to help make a business case for deep energy savings
* Participating in measurement and verification (M&V) efforts
* Analyzing the energy performance of various HVAC system options (energy modeling)
* Developing strategies for implementing deep energy retrofits and streamlining analysis costs across a portfolio of building
* Constructing models (usually Excel based) for financial and energy analysis

As a Sales Engineer, you will report to the Sales Manager and sell a range of mechanical service, service agreements and products within your accounts including a number of key accounts.
