ASHRAE PRESIDENT VISITS PSU-AE
The student chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE) was pleased to host Mr. James Wolf, on October 4, 2000.  Mr. Wolf is currently the National President of ASHRAE and the Vice President of Government Affairs at American Standard in Arlington, Virginia.  Matthew Frey, Jeff O’Brien, and Joe Hummer from the Central Penn ASHRAE Chapter sponsored a dinner for Mr. Wolf and the officers of the Penn State student chapter of ASHRAE.  Mr. Wolf also served as a guest speaker for the ASHRAE student chapter monthly meeting.  His presentation included his Presidential Inaugural Address, “Engineering Tomorrow’s Quality of Life.”  He discussed the milestones of the HVAC&R industry in the 20th century and the future of the industry.  The meeting concluded with an open discussion on ways to improve ASHRAE and the industry.

ASHRAE WINTER MEETING HELD IN ATLANTA, GEORGIA

Dr. Stanley Mumma participated at the ASHRAE Winter Meeting held from January 27-31, 2001 in Atlanta, Georgia.  During the technical program and exposition, papers authored by Dr. Mumma as well as authored by, or coauthored with three former AE students (photo above), Kurt M. Shank, (M.S. ’00) Walter Janus (B.A.E. ’88) and Christopher L. Conroy (B.A.E. ’99) were presented.  These included:

“Overview of Integrating Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems with Parallel Terminal Systems,” Stanley A. Mumma.

“Achieving Dry Outside Air in an Energy Efficient Manner,” Stanley A. Mumma and Kurt Shank.

“Selecting the Supply Air Conditions for a Dedicated Outdoor Air System Working in Parallel with Distributed Sensible Cooling Terminal Equipment,” Kurt M. Shank and Stanley A. Mumma.

“Integration of Hydronic Thermal Transport Systems with Fire Suppression Systems,” Walter Janus, P.E., Member, URS - Washington - DD, Washington, DC.

“Ceiling Radiant Cooling Panels as a Viable Distributed Parallel Sensible Cooling Technology Integrated with Dedicated Outdoor-Air Systems,” Christopher L. Conroy, L.D. Astorino Companies, Pittsburgh, PA and Stanley A. Mumma.

Technical Paper Poster Session:  “Dedicated Outdoor Air Dual Wheel System Control Requirements (4428),” Stanley A. Mumma.
