AE CAREER FAIR 2000
AE Newsletter - Fall/Winter 2000

Another highly successful AE Career Fair was held Nov. 7, 2000 at Rec Hall on Penn State's University Park campus. (above) Now in its seventh year, the AE Career Fair was attended by nearly 150 of the largest and best known AE, consulting engineering, contractor, facilities, building product manufacturers and construction management firms in the U.S. building industry.  The event continues to be the largest AE career fair held in the United States, and one of the largest single department career fairs at Penn State.  Organized by M. Kevin Parfitt, Associate Professor of AE, the AE Career Fair was created to bring together companies interested in recruiting students specializing in all aspects of the design and construction of buildings.

Companies at the AE Career Fair recruited students for entry-level permanent positions as well as co-op openings and summer employment. Traditionally, the AE Career Fair is the source of current and future employment contacts for most AE students.  The five-year AE program at Penn State has one of the highest placement rates at the University, with nearly all senior students obtaining employment prior to graduation.

Students from all years of the AE program, as well as students from North Carolina A & T State University and University of Leeds, England attended the Career Fair.  In addition, State College Area High School students interested in pursuing a career in AE also attended.

Early arrivals had an opportunity to meet with the 5th year seniors in an informal setting to talk about their senior thesis projects and educational experiences at the Senior Thesis Open House on the evening of November 6th.

Attendees (listed right) were categorized as Corporate Partners - $1,000, Sponsors - $500, and General Registration - $250.  This generous sponsorship was critical in making this major annual event possible and clearly shows the level of commitment these firms have to supporting our program and our students. AE Career Fair revenues help defray the cost of organizing and holding this event, as well as supporting a variety of student educational activities and programs throughout the year.  A greater number of Corporate Partners and Sponsors would enable us to pursue even more AE program enhancements.  The AE Department appreciates the support of all participating industry colleagues and alumni. Without all of you the annual AE Career Fair would not be possible! Thank you.
