| Dear Alumni and Friends,
Our world changed last September – and not for the better.
I wish to express my heartfelt condolences and prayers to all those who were
impacted by the horrific events of September 11, 2001. Security in buildings
now commands a higher priority in our society, and architectural engineers
will continue to play pivotal roles in orchestrating meaningful balances
between building security and economic feasibility. We, as a profession, will
continue to accept this enormous responsibility.
Despite the gravity of recent events, you can gather by the
contents of this newsletter that the Penn State AE Department is moving
forward proudly and positively, and our alumni continue to be engaged fully as
leaders in a growing architectural engineering profession.
And speaking of “things that are growing,” you can
certainly put my family in such a category! Little Mary and Sam Behr were born
on December 5, 2001, as announced earlier in this newsletter. The twins are
growing cuter and chubbier day by day, and the Behr family has been truly
blessed. (So who needs sleep, anyway?)
As we celebrate our joys and cope with our sorrows, please
be assured that the faculty, staff, and students – with your continued
support – are committed to maintaining and improving a topflight
Architectural Engineering program at Penn State University. We look forward to
fulfilling this commitment as a team.
Best wishes to you and your families.
Yours truly,
Richard A. Behr, Ph.D., P.E.
