The Pentagon Renovation:
Challenge, Innovation and Triumph
AE Newsletter - Fall/Winter 2002
W. Lee Evey, the former Program Manager of the Pentagon Renovation Program served as a keynote speaker at a lecture held on Thursday, November 21, 2002 at the Nittany Lion Inn.

The Pentagon Renovation is a 20 year, $4+ billion project.  In November, 1997, W. Lee Evey was appointed Program Director of the Pentagon Renovation Program.  Mr. Evey’s background is in contracts acquisition for NASA and the Air Force.  At the time of Mr. Evey’s appointment, the Pentagon Renovation was fraught with budget overruns, delays and the project was about to be cancelled by Congress.  Since leading the renovation, the three most recent projects in the renovation program have been completed under budget and ahead of schedule. Amongst these is the reconstruction of the Pentagon after the September 11th terrorist attack.  The renovation was completed in eleven months.  Mr. Evey described the changes made to the renovation program while under his direction that have led to these dramatic changes in performance.

The lecture was sponsored by the Architectural Engineering Department and the Raymond A. Bowers Program for Excellence in Design and Construction of the Built Environment. The lecture was attended by faculty, staff and students from the Architectural Engineering, Architecture and Landscape Architecture Departments.
