The AE Department was pleased to host the Marvin J. Kudroff
Memorial Lecture on Oct. 10, 2003, at the Nittany Lion Inn.
A fine art collection was presented by Mr. Don Lademan, Family-of-Wonders,
LLC. The interesting exhibit included a group of seven original oil paintings by
the renowned American artist, Mario Larrinaga (1895-1979), depicting the
legendary Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The list of the Seven Wonders, originally compiled in the 2nd century BC, and
finalized in the middle ages, comprised the most impressive monuments of the
ancient world. These include: the Pyramids at Giza in Egypt, the Statue of Zeus
at Olympia in Greece, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus in Persia, the Hanging
Gardens of Babylon, the Colossus of Rhodes in Greece, the Lighthouse at
Alexandria in Egypt; and the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus in Greece. For the
builders, the Seven Wonders were a celebration of religion, mythology, art,
power and science. All were monuments in the built environment.
