From Dr. Richard Behr, Department Head
Dear Alumni and Friends,
The AE Department spent considerable time and effort during Fall 2004 in developing a strategic plan for 2005 – 2008. In the Penn State strategic planning environment, excessive exuberance in envisioning the future must be tempered by the reality that significant increases in institutional resource allocations are difficult to come by. Having said this, the AE Department identified a broad and rich mix of strategic tasks/initiatives to pursue over the next three years. Essentially, we wish to continue making incremental quality improvements in the AE undergraduate program, increase the quality of the AE graduate program/research program, expand the AE Department endowment, and take a leadership role in planning a new College of Engineering “Signature Building” on West Campus to house Architectural Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and the Dean’s Office and its ancillary operations. We are excited about pursuing these new strategic initiatives, and you will see evidence of progress on some of these initiatives in future editions of the AE Newsletter.
Thank you for your continued interest and your ongoing support of the AE Department.
Yours truly,
Richard A. Behr, P.h.D., P.E.
Department Head
