MARVIN J. KUDROFF MEMORIAL LECTURE HELD

The Department of Architectural Engineering was pleased to present the Marvin J. Kudroff Memorial Lecture on March 20, 2000 at the Atherton Hotel.  Featured speaker, Mr. William A. Bianco, Retired Chairman, CEO and Founder of The Kinetics Group, Inc., Saratoga, CA, spoke about the “Role of Attitude and Enthusiasm in Success.” The lecture was very well received by nearly 100 AE faculty, staff and students in attendance. 

The Kinetics Group, Inc. is the world’s leading provider of design, fabrication, installation and manufactured systems for the semiconductor, biopharmaceutical, food-processing and fiber-optic industries.  Founded in 1970 by Mr. Bianco and two other individuals, Kinetics has grown from five employees at inception to its current annual volume of $500 million with over 5,000 employees worldwide.

Bianco is currently serving as Chairman of the Mechanical Contractor’s Association of America Foundation and as Chairman of the Foundation’s Career Development Committee; member of Northern California Mechanical Contractor’s Association; board member for San Jose Symphony Capital Building Program; principal and founder of Child Abuse Center of Santa Clara County and restoration advisor for buildings currently in use; major benefactor to the Tech Museum of Innovation in Silicon Valley; twenty-year board member of the United Association Joint Apprenticeship Committee; board member of numerous companies and 50% owner of Kineticho Farms, a thoroughbred racing partnership.  (Look for them in the 2001 Kentucky Derby!)

Bianco formerly served as Vice President of Volunteer Services at Agnew State Hospital and President of Mechanical Contractor’s Association of Northern California.  He has also coached numerous little league and bobby sox teams for the community during the 1970s-1980s.  He and wife Marie have been married for forty years and have four children and two grandchildren.

The Marvin J. Kudroff Memorial Lectureship in Engineering Management was established in 1981 with a grant from the firm of Daniel, Mann, Johnson & Mendenhall (DMJM) in memory of Marvin Kudroff.  The lectureship provides an annual lecture or seminar for faculty and students by leaders in the field of engineering management.
