Dear
PACE Members, Friends, and Alumni:
It is with mixed feelings that I inform you that
I will be joining Southland Industries, a national design builder of advanced
technology facilities, as the vice president of operations and systems.
In this position I will be working with over 30 Penn State alumni, several
of whom are in leadership positions, and over one thousand other dedicated
individuals to improve their operations and systems.
My decision to leave Penn State was a very difficult
one, but the opportunity to contribute to Southland is a rare chance in
a lifetime, which must be acted on. I have many fond memories from
Penn State, especially with former students and industry supporters who
helped make PACE a reality. I would also like to thank the faculty,
administrators, students and alumni of Penn State and the industry leaders
who have supported me and taught me so much about our business over the
last fifteen years.
The Penn State AE program is in good shape and
is poised for a brighter, better future. PACE currently has 27 members
and more companies are joining. Michael Horman has just joined our
faculty with a Ph.D. from the University of Melbourne, Australia.
Michael has just completed his thesis on applying lean production methods
to construction. Dave Riley will be joining us in January 2001.
Dave earned his Ph.D. at Penn State and helped us get PACE off the ground
in 1992. He will return to Penn State from University of Washington
to become the Director of PACE in May 2001. Dave’s work on sequencing
specialty contractor trades has been nationally recognized. He also
led student teams to win several local and national construction management
and design-build awards. He is an avid Penn State fan and one of
the brightest rising stars in construction education. I will be at
Penn State full time for the 2000/01 academic year to help Michael and
Dave with the transition and to assist in finding an additional faculty
member to work with them.
Please show your support for our new faculty and
find a way to participate in PACE this year. Let’s make the 2000/2001
academic year the best yet.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Victor Sanvido |
