Shawn Elliott, PE '93 and TrucAnh Elliott, PE '93, After having lived in a D.C. suburb for 10 years, we have moved back to PA and are living in Mechanicsburg, a suburb of Harrisburg. We now have two future Penn Staters (we hope): 4-year-old Mason and 1-year-old Norah. Shawn now works as a structural engineer in the facilities department of Gannett Fleming, Inc. and was recently promoted to squad leader. TrucAnh now works 24/7 as a stay-at-home mom...Dave Meuschke '81, What is Joe Maiale ('81) doing? Joe-Please give me a call!...W. David Featherman '92 recently relocated to San Diego, CA (and not missing the winters back East!)...Valerie Gillespie '85, I have been married to Douglas for 19 years; a lot of my classmates know him since we started dating my sophomore year at PSU. We have two great kids; Kate is 16 and Maggie is 11. I made the move from corporate America to private practice to be closer to home and more involved in the kids' activities. The office is only two miles from my house and two blocks from the beach. Although the US economy is down, I have no problems finding projects especially in the booming New Jersey residential and small commercial market. Timber and light steel construction has become more complex due to code changes and criteria for coastal construction...Giff Albright '53 ARCH and Professor Emeritus, Congratulations to Richard Tomlinson '71, on your recent elevation to FELLOW, AIA. Take care, and keep in touch...
Michael Miller '90 was promoted in April 2004 to principal and vice-president of
Barber & Hoffman, Inc. He is also principal-in-charge of the Cranberry Township office for a Cleveland, OH based Barber & Hoffman, Inc., structural engineering firm...Shannon N. Gasbarre (Appleby) '02, Hi to everyone in the AE Department!...William A. Trach '67, works as a senior mechanical and electrical engineer at Liberty Engineering, Inc...Bennie Kovach '02, Hello all. I have recently taken a higher position with a smaller, but growing, GC in the DC area. In this new role, I will be responsible for the success of the entire project in lieu of only several trades associated with a larger project. This new exposure will give me great experience in dealing directly with owners, A/E's, and subcontractor principals. It is experience that I consider vital when considering my career goals in business acquisitions/development. On a personal note, Laura (wife) and I just bought a townhouse in Fairfax, VA. So far it has been a lot of work, but it has been worth it. Laura also got accepted to grad school at Penn State. Needless to say, I will be making numerous trips back to Happy Valley in the next two years. I hope all is well...Anthony C. Janairo '88, As of January 2005, I am looking to expand development into the DC area, and I am looking for contacts in the industrial design and construction field. I would prefer working with firms with a strong connection to Penn State. Please contact me via email: ajanairo@hsacommercial.com. Brian Raff '01 now works as Manager-Certification Marketing for the American Institute of Steel Construction.
Rick Burtt, '96: I returned from Iraq last April (2004) after 11 months building base camps and roads for Coalition forces and playgrounds and schools for the people of Iraq, as well as executing some missions that walked the line between engineering and infantry. Shortly after our return, I flew to Fort Leonard Wood, MO to receive the coveted Itschner Award on behalf of the company I commanded from the Chief of Engineers, Lieutenant General Flowers (a Pennsylvania native). It was a huge honor for my company, as the Itschner Award is given annually by the Army Corps of Engineers to the best engineer company in each of the following: Active Duty, National Guard, and Reserves. At the same banquet, two of my soldiers were recognized for their courage under fire as they received Bronze Star Medals with Valor Device for actions taken and Purple Hearts for wounds received during an ambush en route to a project.
Upon returning, I rejoined Jacobs Engineering in Golden, CO as a cost engineer on a large refinery expansion. I recently began a new job working for SEMA Construction as the scheduler on an interstate expansion in Colorado Springs. With the direction my career has taken, this former structures option has a newfound respect for the construction management option.
My wife Kimberly and I currently live in Littleton, CO with our dog and two cats.
