IEC and IPAC Meetings

On May 23 and 24, 2005, the Indoor Environment Center Advisory Board and IEC faculty/staff and graduate students met at the Hintz Alumni Center to review progress during the past year and discuss the future of the IEC. After a welcome by Dr. Richard Behr, AE Department Head, Dr. William Bahnfleth, IEC Director, opened the second annual Advisory Board Meeting with a progress report highlighting the growth of faculty participation (currently 31 affiliates from six departments on three Penn State campuses), facilities development, and research. A program featuring research summaries by faculty and students and technical presentations by board members Dennis Stanke of Trane and Ronald Bielinski of LZA Technology prompted much discussion of indoor environmental quality issues facing the construction industry and the potential for collaboration among IEC members. The meeting concluded with planning discussions that addressed issues such as the best market sectors on which to focus IEC research and development efforts and models for long term sustainability of the center.

Eleven members of the AE IPAC group visited with members of the 5th year student body for discussions on their capstone projects as well as other curricular issues and concerns. The group also met at length with the AE faculty. The meeting discussions focused on a review of B.A.E. educational objectives, streamlining core AE activities, and opportunities for future program enhancements. Endowment growth strategies as well as potential departmental/alumni involvement in these activities were also discussed.
