2003 OUTSTANDING ENGINEERING ALUMNUS

Theodore H. Dannerth, P.E., B.A.E.’72, M.S. ’82, was awarded the 2003 Outstanding Engineering Alumnus Award from the College of Engineering. Mr. Dannerth is president and a principal of the Elwood S. Tower Corp. in Pittsburgh, PA. A company with a staff of thirty employees, Tower Corp. has been providing innovative mechanical and electrical engineering solutions and unparalleled client service since 1931. The company’s structure allows for principals and senior personnel to remain actively involved with a project from inception to completion. Therefore, in addition to his extensive administrative duties as a firm principal, Mr. Dannerth is an active electrical systems designer, specializing in the design of networking and telecommunications systems. He holds professional engineering registration in eleven states, including Pennsylvania.

With nearly 30 years of experience as an engineer, Mr. Dannerth’s technical responsibilities include the preparation of electrical estimates, technical specifications, engineering drawings, field observations, and coordination with architectural and other engineering disciplines. His electrical design projects have included an impressive array of schools, office buildings, computer centers, churches, apartment complexes, industrial facilities, and numerous specialized technical facilities. His projects include buildings at Carnegie Mellon University, Gannon University, Lycoming College, Penn State University, Slippery Rock University, the University of Pittsburgh, and West Virginia University.

By serving regularly on the AE Senior Thesis Jury and by coordinating the annual Elwood S. Tower Scholarship, Mr. Dannerth has maintained an active role in Penn State Architectural Engineering Department. His professional affiliations include American Consulting Engineers Council, AIA Pittsburgh Chapter, American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers, Building Industry Consulting Service International, Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying, Council of Educational Facilities Planners International, and the Pennsylvania School Board Association.

Mr. Dannerth has proven himself to be a leading practicing professional and able corporation leader in architectural engineering. The faculty and staff of the Architectural Engineering Department join in congratulating Mr. Dannerth on the prestigious honor of being named a 2003 Outstanding Engineering Alumnus.
