Students in the construction option are prepared to take an active role in the planning, management, design, and construction phases of building projects.Construction students focus on:
- Management techniques and economic considerations associated with construction of a full range of building projects
- They prepare for an active role in construction planning and implementation
through courses on:
- contracting
- scheduling
- estimating
- construction methods
- Through professional seminars and guest lectures from field experts, these engineers are acquainted with current industry standards.
The senior thesis for construction students requires the analysis of project management procedures on a $10 million or larger building and independent research on critical industry problems.
The curriculum itself focuses on the construction of architectural, structural, and mechanical systems. Supplemental courses address construction law, organizational behavior, geotechnical engineering, foundation engineering, and surveying.
