Terminal 3 Exterior

Thesis Research

The following list is a sample of some of the resources used throughout the completion of the Senior Thesis.

1. American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc.  2007.  ANSI / ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2007, Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality.

  • ASHRAE Standard 62.1 was used in both Technical Assignment 1 as well as the final report.  This standard clearly outlines the calculation process for determining outdoor air flow rates and was crucial in determining the reduction of OA flow rates achieved.

2. American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc.  2003.   ASHRAE Handbook, HVAC Applications.

  • ASHRAE HVAC Applications was one of the main resources for the acoustical breadth.  It contained a great deal of data explaining how Trane Acoustics Program was performing calculations.

3. American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc.  2005.   ASHRAE Handbook, Fundamentals.

  • ASHRAE Fundamentals is a great overall resource for various HVAC topics.  It provided weather data for the design, as well as answers to many other questions.

4. E.H. Price Limited.  2005.  Underfloor & Displacement Ventilation Systems.

  • The Price catalog and design guide had some general recommendations that were used to design the UFAD and DV systems.  It was also used to determine the actual components required by the system.

5. Energy Design Resources.  2006.  Underfloor Air Distribution and Thermal Displacement Ventilation.  Retrieved February 28th, 2008 from:  www.energydesignresources.com/docs/hg-underfloor.pdf

  • This website was used to determine the load factors for the occupied and unoccupied zones.  There were many other sites used to gather this data as well.

6. Kjelgaard, Michael J.  2001.  Engineering Weather Data.

  • This book provided the weather data required for the economizer bin calculations.  This data was difficult to obtain at first, so this book proved to be a helpful resource.

7. Loudermilk, Kenneth J.  1999.  ASHRAE Transactions 1999, Vol 1.  Underfloor Air Distribution Solutions for Open Office Applications.

  • This article contained a fair amount of information on UFAD systems.  It was also used to assign some load factors for the occupied and unoccupied zones.
