Julia has always had a fascination with construction. Even as a small child she would take apart all her toys to figure out how they were constructed, excavate the sand box with her Tonka bulldozers. She would only construct buildings with her Lego's, as well as explore through new housing developments to learn what new construction was going on near her home.

Once deciding to focus her collegiate career toward engineering, based on the help of one of her Technology teacher in High School, she decided on Architectural Engineering. Construction Management was the way to go, and Penn State was the place. She knew she would be able to be very involved in construction as she had always been interested in. While attending Penn State, she has also participated in the Penn State Lightweight Crew Team for three years, she is a Teaching Intern for two classes for Dr. Michael Horman; Building Construction Engineering 1 & 2, and she is currently a Placement Officer for S:PACE.

During her summers she would lifeguard, coach local high school rowing teams, and studied abroad in Rome, Italy, until this past summer 2007 when she obtained an internship with Southland Industries. There she was able to put her skills to the test while working on the INOVA Loudoun Hospital Central Plant Renovation. She was able to be very involved in getting the project on track and contacting the owner and managing the field personnel. The finish date was extremely sensitive because the hospital remained in a fully functioning state during the renovation; she was required to coordinate each system shutdown with the hospital during the decommissioning phase of the project.

Julia is currently a fifth year student in Architectural Engineering with a focus in Construction Management at Penn State University. She will be graduating in May 2008 with an integrated MAE/BAE degree.
