Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work-in-progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Katherine Jenkins. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.

Thesis Proposal

Revised Thesis Proposal -1/21/08 (pdf)

Thesis Proposal with Breadths (pdf)

The Thesis Proposal addresses the technical analyses that I have proposed for my Senior Thesis Project on the Baltimore Washington Medical Center- Women’s Center and Inpatient Tower.  The assignment includes a brief description of the four topics that I have chosen to research and analyze in more detail. Each analysis is broken down into a problem, a stated goal for the analysis, techniques for how I plan to develop the topic, and the results that I expect from the analysis.

Thesis Breadths (pdf)

The Thesis Proposal also addresses the two breadth studies that I have extracted from the technical analysis areas. The two breadths focus on disciplines other than the Construction Management Option. For my proposal, I have chosen a Structural Breadth and a Building Enclosure Breadth.

Structural Breadth

The first breadth is to use an alternative structural system for the area above the existing mechanical room.  The proposed change for this area of the building is to replace the precast concrete panel flooring with composite metal decking and concrete slab flooring system.  The breadth will focus on redesigning the structural flooring system for this area.

Building Enclosure Breadth

The second breadth is to use an alternate façade system for the building.  The proposed idea is to look at replacing the EIFS Panels with the original design using GFRC Panels.  The breadth will compare the weather resistance, thermal quality and architectural appearance of the two facade systems.
