ABOUT ME

Nasser was born in Los Angeles, California and spent his childhood in Norman, Oklahoma. Nasser then moved back to family's home country, Kuwait, where he spent most of his life. He attended the British School of Kuwait and after graduating high school he decided to further his education in America. He was awarded a five year college scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education of the State of Kuwait which further motivated him to pursue his studies abroad in America. In his free time Nasser enjoys to watch international soccer, participate in intramural activities and ski. During school holidays Nasser loves to travel across the world and discover new places to learn about people’s cultures and traditions.

Nasser Marafi was a LEGO enthusiast during his childhood which later developed an interest in how buildings where built. He was amazed by tall structures and showed great interest in the art of buildings. Nasser's passion for math and the arts influenced his decision to pursue his studies at Penn State. Nasser majors in Architectural Engineering, with a focus in the structural option. He will be completing his integrated degree of a Master and Bachelor of Architectural Engineering in August of 2008. Nasser has also enhanced his knowledge in arts and architecture by studying abroad in Rome, Italy and will be receiving a minor in Architectural Studies upon graduation.

During Nasser's course of studies at Penn State, he has learned to incorporate his academic knowledge in real life applications. By doing so he has interned in two reputable firms, one in Kuwait where he worked on a construction site of a modern skyscraper with Ahmadiah Contracting & Trading Co. He then worked during the summer of 2007 in New York City, with KPFF Consulting Engineers.  He was given many tasks during these experiences from checking concrete foundation curing temperatures at one of the world's tallest buildings to designing key structural elements of buildings in high seismic zones.  Upon graduation Nasser will be receiving his Engineer in Training certification and will be working towards his professional engineering registration.
