  Student Biography

Philip Corrie is currently in his 5th and final year of study in the Construction Management Option of the Department of Architectural Engineering at Penn State.  Phil became interested in construction at an early age as he came from a family of small contractors.  Knowing the career he desired, Phil, a Pittsburgh native, decided to pursue the well-respected 5-year professional degree at Penn State.

During his summers off from Penn State, Philip has been busy getting acquainted with the construction industry.  Three years ago, Phil had an invaluable experience working as a manual laborer for a concrete contractor in his hometown, Wees Concrete Inc.  Although a small contractor, Phil acquired knowledge during his stint at Wees about concrete construction, as well as, the building industry in general.

After a summer of getting his hands dirty, Phil moved on to Foreman Program and Construction Managers, a medium-sized construction management firm focusing much of its attention on schools.  There at Foreman, he got the opportunity to manage the site of a small re-roofing and renovation project on an elementary school.  That same summer, he also assisted the site manager of a high school re-roofing and renovation project.

Seeking an opportunity to participate in larger construction projects, Phil moved onto The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company the summer before his final year at Penn State.  Headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, Whiting-Turner provided him with the opportunity to become actively involved in pre-construction activities on a hotel project in excess of $30 million.

Phil is scheduled to graduate in May 2008 and looks forward to a full-time employment opportunity.  He plans to further his education and knowledge of the construction industry by pursing a Masters of Business Administration (M.B.A.) later in his career.  Philip passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam in October 2006 and hopes to obtain his professional engineering license in the near future.  To view a copy of Philip’s resume, click the link below.
