General Description:

The Capstone Project Electronic Portfolio (CPEP) is a web‐based project and information center. It contains material produced for a year‐long Senior Thesis class. Its purpose, in addition to providing central storage of individual assignments, is to foster communication and collaboration between student, faculty consultant, course instructors, and industry consultants. This website is dedicated to the research and analysis conducted via guidelines provided by the Department of Architectural Engineering. For an explanation of this capstone design course and its requirements click here.

User Note:

While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work‐in‐progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Rachel Gingerich. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.

Reflection

Reflection

Throughout the past year of senior thesis, I noticed several things that aided me in completing my assignments and others than hindered me.
First, talking to my consultant. Every time I talked with my advisor my project would get back on track and better than before. This is especially key when I was writing my proposal and before my presentation, as my advisor brought to light potential items that I might have overlooked and could address them before presenting.
Second, my rewarding site visit. When I was working on my thesis and looking at the drawings, I always visualized the actual building in my mind back and it helped to clarify so many things. Also, by taking pictures of my building, I felt like a lot of my assignments were improved by the additional graphics..
Third, simple CPEP. By making my CPEP website fairly simple and making a template early in the first few weeks of school to design all pages by, it made all of the little assignments in the fall semester go more quickly and smoothly.
Lastly, a bit of advice for fifth years beginning their senior thesis. Procrastination. Don't do it!!! It will come back get ya every time, especially when Go/No-Go Checks come around. If you are reading this, then your probably procrastinating, so get to work!
