Technical Report 1

(This PDF version is experiencing difficulties displaying charted information. I am working to fix this issue as soon as possible. A temporary version in .docx format can be found here. Thank you.)

This is a Structural Concepts / Structural Existing Conditions Report for the Edward L Kelly Leadership Center. It contains a description of the physical existing conditions of the structure of the building including information relative to design concepts and required loading. It provides an overview of all the structural components of the building.

Technical Report 2

This report is a study and comparison of at four different alternative floor framing systems for the Edward L Kelly Leadership Center. The systems chosen are: Composite Steel Framing, 2-way Concrete Flat Slab, Concrete Post-tensioned slab, and Waffle Slab, 2-way Concrete Joists

Technical Report 3

This Report contains a study of the lateral system in the Edward L Kelly Leadership Center.

Within the report, the following items are presented:

  • Description of the lateral system used in the existing system
  • Combination of loads which control the design of your
    lateral resisting system.
  • Computed lateral loads distributed to the lateral resisting elements
  • Confirmation that a logical load path for distribution of the calculated loads exists in the real structure
  • Checks of strength, drift, story drift, overturning and impact on foundations
  • Spot checking of critical members.
  • Building drift check
  • Torsion issues

In addition, a three-dimensional model created in RAM Structural System is presented.

Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work‐in‐progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Ryan Pletz. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
