Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete info-rmation on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained here with is considered a work-in-progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Steve Horna. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or wasflawed. Differing assump- tions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.

AE 481W/ 482 Course Reflection

Senior thesis is separated into two separate courses. AE 481W focuses on research and study of the exiting conditions of an approved thesis building currently in
construction. AE 482 uses informations from the previous course developing a
propoal for several study analyses on possible improvements or developments,
including out-of-option breadth studies.

Looking back at the past year of work I believe that thesis was a positive and eye-
opening experience. I learned about my personal work ethic, including for the first
time, trying to work independent of deadlines and working at my own pace. It was
much tougher to keep on a steady pace than I first thought and it was an issue that
I had to work through. I developed much stronger communication and network-ing skills with my outside research and company contacts. I think this was the
most enjoyable part for me was talking to professionals, technical experts, salesmen, and peers. Actually taking that information and making arguments,
drawing conclusions, and recommendations was much harder. If I had to do
senior thesis over again I would definitely have made things easier on myself,
made assumptions and decisions that would have been less stressful.

Now that senior thesis is over, I feel a mix of emotions. Probably the first thought
is a sense of relief, that I had this huge burden lifted off of my shoulders and now
I could go on living my life.
Afterward I feel this crush of everything coming to a
close. Five years of exams, projects, team building, cramming, stress, accomplish-
ment, late nights, early mornings, deadlines, banquets, socials, everything ending
and culminating in an 80 page report and a 15 minute powerpoint. There is some
regret. Regret that I could have produced a better product or approached some of
my analyses n a different light. I usually don't dwell on this and resolve to
appreicate what I have accomplished.

CPEP & Discussion Board Relfection

CPEP was a valuable resource for thesis study. I very much liked the idea of
industry professionals being available as a first line resource. It really helps
knowing that these volunteers had an obligations to respond to students. The CM
discussion board was a bit lacking in comparison to the other options. The
mechanical and structural discussion boards were very helpful as a non-structural
or mechancial student with many questions. As a whole I would hope that the
discussion boards continue and expand.
