Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work-in-progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Stephen. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.

Technical Report No. 1:
Structural Concepts and Existing Conditions Report

Report 1 contain descriptions of the physical existing conditions of the structural systems of Ingleside at King Farm. In addition, the report discusses design codes that dictated the design of the building and their confirmation through strucutral analysis of the building's structural strength and serviceability.

Technical Report No. 2:
Structural Study of Existing and Alternative Floor Systems

Report 2 investigates the pros and cons of the existing structural system, and three alternative floor systems for Ingleside at King Farm. Design criteria and serviceability issues are addressed for each floor system. Such as cost, floor depth, system weight, deflection, fireproofing, impact on existing architectural and column layout, vibration, accoustics, and constructability. The three alternative systems include:

-Two-Way Flat Plate with Reinforced    Interior and Exterior Beams
-Hollow Core Planks on Steel Girders
-Composite Metal Deck on Steel Girders

Technical Report No. 3:
Indept Lateral System Analysis
Study

Report 3 investigates the lateral system of Ingleside at King Farm. The analysis includes story drift, overall total story drift, torsional shear, overturning moments, and to determine the controlling load case.  Only one building section was chosen for this analysis.  The chosen building section was section 3, as it has the highest apex of the building, up to 85 feet.

Final Report

This final report is a yearlong accumulated study performed on Ingleside at King Farm. The existing design of Ingleside at King Farm is used as a model for a prototype design that will be relocated to a high seismic zone in California utilizing steel frame construction, slab on metal deck system, and special concentric braced frames.

The first breadth study includes the research and analysis of implementing an extensive green roof and the usage of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete for precast architectural panels. These two design decisions are integrated into the second breadth study focusing on the evaluation of the building facade's thermal and moisture resistance performance. The design parameters as a result from the breath studies are integrated into the structural depth study such as how the cladding system affects the energy dissipation of the building during an earthquake, and how the loads from the roof gardens affects possibilities of soft stories and member sizes in a seismic analysis.
