Biography

Marissa Gesell is completing her 5th year as a student in Architectural Engineering at Penn State University. She will be graduating in May 2008, with an integrated Bachelor/Master of Architectural Engineering degree and minor in architectural studies. Her focus of study in the program is the electrical and lighting design of buildings.

In the summer of 2008, Marissa participated in a lighting design internship with Horton Lees Brogden Lighting Design, an internationally recognized lighting design consulting firm, concentrating in the design of new buildings for architecture clients. The experience provided her with valuable knowledge and insight into the design, coordination, and construction of a variety of building types.

Prior to the summer of 2008, Ms. Gesell has taken many beneficial summer courses, including those in a study abroad program in Rome. Along with the valuable experience of studying abroad, she recieved majority of the credits necessary to complete the architectural studies minor.

Along with academics, Marissa has been involved in the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) student chapter for two years. As a 5th year senior she is now serving as a treasurer in the IES chapter. She placed 1st in both the 2008 IES Philadelphia student lighting design competition and the 2008 Howard Branston Student grant competition. In order to recieve the Howard Brandston award, Marissa attended the 2008 IES Annual Conference. Marissa also attended the 2008 International Association of Lighting Designers Conference.
