Biographical Sketch

Samir Al-Azri is currently a 5th year student at the Pennsylvania state University, majoring in Architectural Engineering with a focus in structural systems. In addition to the engineering Bachelors degree, he will be earning a minor in Business entrepreneurship.  His expected graduation date is May 2010 followed by an opportunity of employment in a competitive structural design firm.

Samir is an international student from the Sultanate of Oman. He attended a bilingual school and speaks three languages fluently; English, Arabic and Swahili. Studying abroad, as well as travelling in different continents, has presented Samir with the opportunity of experiencing different cultures and lifestyles.

Growing up, Samir was exposed to architecture by working in his father’s Architectural design firm over the summers. Fascinated by construction he decided to pursue a career in that field. With a more scientific than artistic mind, Samir was able to find the perfect balance in Architectural Engineering. As an intern with Azri Architects in the past summer, he was involved in the design process of many projects including the new radio stations in different cities of Oman. Samir also worked on different residential projects while gaining great experience in using AutoCAD as a design tool.  Furthermore, he was able to gain some experience in the surveying field by working on various surveying projects.

Samir was awarded a full scholarship from the ministry of higher education and also obtained the Bronze award in The Duke o f Edinburgh’s Award (2002-2003). His hobbies include travelling, soccer and water sports. Samir is planning to practice engineering in the Sultanate of Oman in order to help in its development and as a way to give back for the lifetime opportunity that was presented to him.
